Shopify vs WooCommerce

We'll tell you honestly
which platform fits your store.

Shopify is the right call for most small retailers. It's easier to manage day-to-day, has better built-in payments and shipping, handles taxes properly, and 'just works.' The monthly cost is higher than WooCommerce, but you save it back in hours of not fighting with plugins.

WooCommerce (on WordPress) wins when you want maximum flexibility, you're already running a content-heavy WordPress site, or you're highly cost-sensitive and willing to maintain it yourself. We do WooCommerce too — see our WordPress page.

For an in-store retailer in Fort Frances who wants to start selling online without making a second full-time job out of it, Shopify is almost always the answer.

Common questions

Shopify FAQ

How much does a Shopify store cost to set up?
A typical Shopify setup project runs $1,500–$4,000 depending on how many products you have, how custom the design needs to be, and what integrations you need (POS, accounting, shipping). Shopify's own subscription is $39–$399 USD per month depending on plan.
Shopify or WooCommerce — which should I use?
Shopify is easier to manage day-to-day, has better built-in payments and shipping, and 'just works.' WooCommerce (on WordPress) is cheaper monthly and more flexible if you want to customize heavily. For most small retailers, Shopify is the right choice. For content-heavy stores or businesses already running WordPress, WooCommerce often wins.
Can you integrate Shopify with our in-store POS?
Yes. Shopify has its own POS that integrates seamlessly with the online store — inventory, customers, and orders stay in sync. If you're already on Square POS, we can integrate those too, or migrate you to Shopify POS if that makes more sense.
Will my Shopify store rank on Google?
Yes — Shopify has good built-in SEO. The platform isn't what limits ranking. We set up your store with proper product titles, descriptions, metadata, schema markup, local SEO, and a clean URL structure so your products and collections actually rank.
Can you migrate our existing online store to Shopify?
Yes. We migrate stores from WooCommerce, Square Online, BigCommerce, Wix, and other platforms to Shopify — products, customers, orders, redirects. The goal is a smooth move with no broken links and no SEO loss.
Do you set up Canadian tax handling for Shopify?
Yes. We configure GST/HST and PST rates correctly for Canadian sellers, set up shipping zones for Canadian and US customers, and connect Shopify to QuickBooks or your accounting system. Tax setup is one of the things small businesses most often get wrong.
